Oscars 2000
The 72nd Academy Awards took place in March 26, 2000. American Beauty was the big winner of the night, winning five awards which included Best Picture and Best Director. The Matrix won four awards in the categories of Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Film Editing, and Best Visual Effects. The Cider House Rules and Topsy-Turvy each won two Oscars.
The ceremony was very fun, due to the amazing hosting of Billy Crystal. Kevin Spacey won best actor for his thrilling and powerful performance in American Beauty. Best Actress was taken by Hilary Swank as Brandon Teena/ Teena Ray Brandon in Boys Don't Cry. Michael Cane won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the film The Cider House Rules. Jon Voight's daughter, Angelina Jolie, proved she was just as talented as her father, taking the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Girl, Interrupted. Overall, the ceremony was very well-done and all of the winers were extremely deserving of the Oscars they won.
